Oreo (Seizures)

TCVM treatment for Seizures in a Dog

Oreo was adopted from sheltie rescue at the age of two. He had monthly grand mal seizures and had been diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy. Because of concern with possible side effects of anti-seizure medication,  his seizures were controlled with monthly acupuncture and daily Chinese Herbal Medication for over four and a half years.

When Oreo turned seven, his seizures worsened and he was started on phenobarbital.  He had severe liver damage from this medication and had to be hospitalized!  He also could not tolerate the anti-convulsant drug Potassium Bromide (KBr).

His seizures are now controlled with zonicamide. Acupuncture is used every 8 weeks to support his liver function and he is taking Milk Thistle.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal therapy helped delay the use of potentially toxic anti-seizure medication for three and one half years and greatly helped improve Oreo's quality of life! He is a happy, healthy nine years old now!
